The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange opened at 9,117.53 today. After moving between 9,027.35 and 9,136.42, the index closed at 9,110.17 points, down 21.55. Turnover totaled NT$64.83 billion.
The weighted index, excluding the financial sector, closed at 7,757.77 points, down 24.90.
A total of 2,348 stocks closed up, and 2,726 ended down with 380 unchanged.
The top 10 stocks in terms of trading volume were 2888, 00637L, 2317, 2409, 00632R, 3481, 2328, 2881, 2891 and 00633L.
The top 10 stocks in terms of trading value were 2317, 2330, 2498, 2881, 2882, 2454, 2328, 00633L, 3008 and 00632R.
The top 10 stocks in terms of market capitalization were 2330, 2317, 2412, 6505, 1301, 2882, 1303, 1326, 3008 and 2881.
Foreign institutional investors sold a net NT$1.33 billion worth of shares on the TWSE, and local investment trust firms recorded a net buy of NT$47 million. Proprietary securities firms for self-trading purposes served as net sellers of NT$244 million, while proprietary securities firms for hedging purposes bought a net NT$1.03 billion.
According to the TWSE, market capitalization of the local main board stood at NT$26.92 trillion last week, up NT$288.88 billion from a week earlier.
The TWSE said that the weighted index on the main board rose 97.45 points, or 1.08 percent last week. The FTSE TWSE Taiwan 50 Index gained 87.59 points or 1.29 percent, while the Formosa Stock Index added 102.03 points, or 0.98 percent in the week.
Among the major sectors on the main board, the sector of other electronics devices scored the highest gains of 3.11 percent, while the information service sector suffered the steepest decline of 2.00 percent.
The index, excluding the financial sector, rose 91.41 points or 1.19 percent, the index, excluding the electronics sector, gained 59.12 points or 0.47 percent, and the index, excluding the financial and electronics sectors, added 57.79 points or 0.52 percent.
The TWSE said that the total turnover on main board hit NT$341.40 billion, and stock turnover reached NT$303.35 billion last week with the turnover ratio at 1.19 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover were the semiconductor sector, the financial sector and the sector of other electronics devices.
Turnover of the semiconductor sector totaled NT$51.61 billion, accounting for 17.01 percent of the total stock turnover, turnover of the financial sector reached NT$35.57 billion, representing 11.72 percent, and turnover of other electronics devices hit NT$34.11 billion, making up 11.24 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover ratio were the optoelectronics sector (2.78 percent), the electronics component sector (2.52 percent), and the electronics distribution sector (2.09 percent).
The TWSE said that since the beginning of this year, there had been 158 trading sessions on the local main board. During the period, turnover totaled NT$12.87 trillion billion with the daily average at NT$81.49 billion, and the turnover ratio hit 41.95 percent with the daily average at 0.27 percent.
