Taipei, The 18th tropical storm of the year took shape near Guangdong Province, China, Monday morning, but the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) does not expect it to affect Taiwan.
Tropical Storm Bebinca is almost stationary near Guangdong and packing maximum sustained winds of 64.8 kph and gusts of 90kph, according to CWB data.
Currently, there are three tropical storms in the western Pacific Ocean, including Yagi, Leepi and Bebinca. None are expected to directly impact Taiwan, CWB forecaster Liu Pei-tung (???) said.
However, the combination of a low pressure system and southwesterly air flows means that central and southern areas of the country are likely to see heavy downpours from Monday to Wednesday, according to Liu.
On Thursday, another tropical disturbance is expected to approach Taiwan's east coast, bringing intermittent rain to northern and eastern areas of the country, Liu said.
