Typhoon Hinnamnor on Saturday caused the cancellation of almost 40 flights and over 100 ferry services across Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).
As of 6 p.m., a total of 39 flights had been canceled, including 10 domestic flights and 29 international and cross-strait flights, the MOTC’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said.
On the marine transportation front, a total of 12 routes had been affected as of 6 p.m., with 104 ferry services canceled, most linking Taiwan proper to outlying islands such as Matsu and Penghu or between outlying islands, the MOTC’s Maritime and Port Bureau said.
Among the canceled ferry services, the bureau said, two passenger boat services between Keelung and Matsu were canceled, one ferry service between Taipei and Matsu was also canceled, while one ferry service between Nangan and Dongyin, both of which are administered by Lienchiang County, were suspended.
In addition, 11 ferry services between Budai, Chiayi County in southern Taiwan, and Penghu, 44 passenger boat services between Donggang and Liuqiu Island off Pingtung County in the south, and two ferry services from Jiang Jyun in Tainan and Penghu’s Dongji Island were also canceled, the bureau added.
However, six ferry services between Donggang and Liuqiu Island sailed as planned Saturday, the bureau said.
A total of 10 passenger boat services between Yanpu in Pingtung and Liuqiu Island were also canceled with only two sailing as planned, while one ferry service between Green Island and Orchid Island in Taitung, southeastern Taiwan, and two ferry services between Dapeng Bay and Liuqiu Island in Pingtung were also canceled, the bureau added.
Meanwhile, 14 ferry services between Fugang in Pingtung and Green Island in Taitung, eight ferry services between Fugang and Orchid Island, and eight passenger boat services between Houbihu in Pingtung and Orchid Island were suspended, the bureau said.
Due to the typhoon’s lingering impact on the weather, a total of 40 ferry services on 10 routes could be canceled on Sunday, including two services between Keelung and Matsu, one between Taipei and Matsu, one between Nangan and Dongyin, one between Kaohsiung and Penghu, two between Donggang and Liuqiu Island, and 14 between Fugang and Orchid Island, the bureau said.
As of 8 p.m., the storm was located 340 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei, moving north at 16 kilometers per hour in a northerly direction, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The storm was carrying maximum sustained winds of 173 kph, with gusts of up to 209 kph, the CWB said.
