Taipei--A Vietnamese fisherman was found injured early Tuesday morning after falling from an embankment on a small island in outlying Penghu County and is being treated for a multitude of injuries at a hospital in the county capital of Magong.
The fisherman, identified only by his Chinese name of "Chen You-chung" (???), apparently went outside to get a respite from the heat in his fishing boat docked on Wang'an Island and fell asleep on top of an embankment in the port before falling off, according to Penghu Coast Guard officials.
Coast Guard officials said they were alerted at 4 a.m. Tuesday by the Wang'an Township Public Health Center that a foreign fisherman was found with several injuries from a fall and had to be taken to a hospital in Magong on Penghu County's biggest island to be treated.
At about 6 a.m., the Coast Guard ferried the injured fisherman to Magong, about 25 kilometers away, and he was admitted to Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch.
The fisherman suffered injuries throughout his body, including a fractured left knee and a broken jaw.
