Visit by Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group welcomed by MOFA

The visit by a delegation from the Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group is sincerely welcomed by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said March 12.

The delegation was led by Kosovo’s former Prime Minister and co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China Avdullah Hoti and included the friendship group’s co-chairs Artan Abrashi and Blerta Deliu-kodra.

During its six-day stay, the delegation will be received by President Tsai Ing-wen and meet with Premier Chen Chien-jen, Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun and National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo, as well as attend the 2023 Parliamentary Openness and Monitoring Forum set to be held March 14-15 in New Taipei City, the MOFA said.

The delegates will call on ministries, agencies and private institutions to discuss issues including the Taiwan-Europe relationship and cross-strait peace and stability while expanding exchanges in areas of economics, education, technology and trade, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, the delegation is the first cross-party parliamentary group to visit Taiwan since Kosovo declared independence in 2008. The trip demonstrates the unity of frontline democracies and deepens the two sides’ exchanges, the ministry said.

Established in December 2021, the Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group is the first of its kind in the Western Balkans and its Taiwan counterpart was set up concurrently in the Legislature, the MOFA said, adding that the ministry welcomes more like-minded partners to enter further dialogue with Taiwan on the basis of shared values and mutually beneficial partnerships.
