Lin Minn-tsong (林敏聰), deputy minister of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), on Tuesday attended a trilateral technology cooperation conference with representatives from Latvia and Lithuania in Riga, the capital of Latvia, according to the council.
The conference was co-hosted by Lin, Dmitrijs Stepanovs, deputy secretary of state on Higher Education and Research under the Ministry of Education and Research of Lativa, and Laima Taparauskiene, director of Lithuania’s Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology, NSTC said in a statement.
Lin is visiting the two Baltic countries at the head of a six-member Taiwan delegation from Oct. 24-28.
During the meeting, the three representatives exchanged views on technology policy in their countries and discussed their direction and priority areas of future collaboration to make cooperation more effective, according to the statement.
They also discussed topics such as disease prevention science research and laser technology, according to the NSTC.
The delegation was scheduled to visit science research institutions in Latvia on Monday and Tuesday and will do the same in Lithuania Wednesday to Friday.
During their visit, they will conduct exchanges with experts in the two countries with the hope of launching the first phase of international technology exchanges and substantive cooperation in disease prevention, based on the research capacity of NSTC’s Research Center for Pandemic Prevention Science and Taiwan’s experience in fighting COVID-19, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, a high-power thin-disk laser (TDL) system jointly developed by Lithuania and Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University is set to boost the development of advanced laser technology in both countries, according to the NSTC.
