Taipei-- The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) has decided that in the near future it will relax regulations on the recruitment of firefighters in an effort to expand the number of new recruits, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Thursday.
The revised rules will allow residents over 20 years of age regardless of household registration address, who have not served time over the past 10 years, to apply to serve as volunteer firefighters, the ministry said in the statement.
The current regulations state that residents over 20 years of age must reside at their household registration address, have not served time or been subject to court-sanctioned educational discipline in order to be volunteer firefighters.
The ministry's statement indicated that the revision is intended to help those previously incarcerated give back to the community and to allow individuals working or studying away from home to serve as volunteer firefighters.
