VP Hsiao Departs for Strategic Visit to Palau

Taipei: Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim set off for a visit to Palau, one of Taiwan's three Pacific allies, with objectives focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing local tourism, and reviewing development initiatives supported by Taiwan.

According to Focus Taiwan, Vice President Hsiao outlined her mission at Taoyuan International Airport before departure, emphasizing the primary task assigned by President Lai Ching-te to fortify ties between Taiwan and Palau. This five-day visit is aimed at furthering the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

During her visit, Hsiao is scheduled to meet with Palauan President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. and other key officials. She highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits in reinforcing the bond, acknowledging President Whipps Jr.'s frequent visits to Taiwan as a testament to the robust friendship between the nations.

Hsiao also aims to promote Palau's attractions to Taiwanese citizens, encouraging tourism as a means of cultural exchange and economic benefit. Additionally, she plans to evaluate the impact of Taiwan's Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project in Palau, which encompasses initiatives in healthcare, fisheries, agriculture, and infrastructure.

This trip marks Hsiao's first official visit to a diplomatic ally since she took office in May 2024. The visit follows an invitation from President Whipps Jr., and she is accompanied by Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Ching-yi and Deputy Foreign Minister Baushuan Ger.
