Taipei--The weather across Taiwan on Friday will be sunny and sticky, with increased chance of afternoon thunderstorms in some parts of the country, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Daytime highs will hover between 32-35 degrees Celsius, with flat areas in the western part of Taiwan more likely to see strong afternoon thunderstorms, while regions in the southeast and the Hengchun Peninsula will experience occasional brief showers, the CWB said.
At the same time, a tropical depression has formed in waters south of Okinawa, Japan and is forecast to move in a north west-northern direction, the bureau said, adding that the depression is unlikely to strengthen and become a tropical storm.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (???) said the temperature in western Taiwan will climb to 33-35 degrees and in the east 32-34 degrees over the coming week.
He urged the public to be vigilant, with the possibility of lighting and strong precipitation in western Taiwan on Friday afternoon, as unstable weather is forecast for the day.
In terms of air quality, an orange light has flashed for northern Taiwan, meaning that sensitive groups are vulnerable to the poor air quality, while it is rated from good to fair in the rest of the country, according to the Environmental Protection Administration's website http://goo.gl/hE50ct.
