Taipei--Areas around Taiwan and the offshore islands of Matsu, Penghu and Kinmen will see mostly cloudy to sunny weather on Wednesday, with daytime highs hitting 32-36 degrees Celsius, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Brief showers or thundershowers could occur in western Taiwan and mountainous areas Wednesday afternoon, the CWB said.
Temperatures will remain high, with daytime highs reaching 34-36 degrees in western Taiwan, 33-34 degrees in eastern Taiwan, and above 36 degrees in the greater Taipei area, the CWB said.
The bureau urged the public to take precautions against sunburn and heat stroke and stay hydrated when going outdoors.
Former CWB forecaster Wu Der-rong (???), who now teaches at National Central University and often issues independent longer-term forecasts, said the weather will remain warm throughout Taiwan into next week.
He said daytime highs are expected to hit 36 to 37 degrees in the greater Taipei area, making it the hottest week so far this summer.
