Taiwan is set to experience slightly warmer weather on Thursday and Friday before the mercury drops again on Saturday, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.
CWB forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) told CNA that due to weakening northeasterly winds, temperatures around the island will rise slightly, although early Thursday morning is likely to be chilly with northern Taiwan seeing temperatures of 19-20 degrees Celsius and the rest of the country 21-23 degrees.
Meanwhile, daytime temperatures could reach 24-26 degrees, he said.
With the decrease in atmospheric moisture, most of Taiwan will see cloudy to sunny skies, with the exception of mountainous areas of Taipei, the eastern half of the island, northeastern areas of the country and Keelung’s northern coast potentially experiencing light showers.
Heavier precipitation will return Saturday, Huang said, due to an uptick in the strength of northeasterly winds and a depression moving up from the south.
Saturday and Sunday will likely see heavier rainfall in mountainous areas of Taipei, eastern and northeastern parts of the country, and northern Keelung, with central and southern Taiwan forecast to have intermittent showers, Huang said.
The rainy weather will continue until Monday with temperatures remaining low, he added.
