Northern Taiwan can expect lower temperatures this weekend and early next week with the arrival of a northeasterly wind system, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

Starting Oct. 16, the weather will turn cooler after the arrival of northeasterly winds in northern Taiwan, with daytime temperatures about 25 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are forecast to drop to 21-23 degrees in some areas on Oct. 16-17, the CWB said.

On Oct. 19, as the northeasterly winds weaken, the temperature is expected to rise, the CWB said. However, with a stronger high-pressure system from the north during the autumn, cooler weather is likely to prevail, the CWB added.

Meanwhile, a large day-night temperature differential is forecast in central and southern parts of the island, with the mercury likely to reach highs of 32-34 degrees during the day before falling to 21-23 degrees at night, the bureau said.

The CWB also said that, despite the departure of Tropical Storm Kompasu, unstable weather conditions are likely to prevail in northeastern and eastern parts of the island for the next two days, while western Taiwan will be partly cloudy with occasional rain.
