Taipei--The weather around Taiwan will remain hot on Monday, with a chance of occasional showers or thunderstorms forecast for southern Taiwan, as well as Hualien and Taitung in the east, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Temperatures in western Taiwan could reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius that day, while the greater Taipei area could see 35 degrees and eastern areas 32-34 degrees.
There is also a chance of brief showers or thunderstorms in Hualien, Taitung, the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County and other areas of southern Taiwan. Meanwhile, mountainous areas and adjacent plains regions around the country could see afternoon thunderstorms, according to the CWB.
In addition, tropical storm Talas has made landfall in Vietnam and will gradually decrease in strength the bureau said, reminding those who plan to travel to the country to pay attention to typhoon-related information.
Ultraviolet radiation levels could reach an excessive or dangerous level during daytime on Monday, the CWB said, advising the public to take precautions to avoid sunburn and heat stroke, including drinking a lot of water when outdoors.
