Taipei, The Yilan County government will give a preview of its annual children's folklore festival on Friday, allowing free admission to the events that will include a water-themed light show.
The preview to the International Children's Folklore and Folkgames Festival (YICFFF) will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, while the official opening will be held the next day, the county government's Cultural Affairs Bureau (CAB) said.
During the preview session, visitors will be able to try out the facilities at the recreational water park and view a water-themed light show, which will be staged at 7 p.m., the bureau said.
The annual festival will open formally Saturday at 9 a.m. and will run through Aug. 18 at Dongshan River Water Park in Yilan, northeastern Taiwan.
Lu Hsin-fang deputy chief executive officer of the Lanyang Cultural and Educational Foundation, said the YICFFF this year will feature performances, activities, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges, and its main motif will be butterflies.
This year, the daily closing time will be extended from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Lu said.
The YICFFF, which was established in 1996, has since attracted a total of some 9.5 million visitors, according to the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts.
