President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday appointed Joo Ki-hwan, a prosecutor-turned-politician known to be close to Yoon, as his special adviser for people's livelihood issues.The presidential office announced the appointment in a notice to the press, three days after Joo withdrew his candidacy for a proportional representation seat affiliated with the People Future Party in the upcoming April 10 parliamentary elections.The People Future Party is a satellite party of the ruling People Power Party, and Joo's withdrawal came in protest of his low ranking -- 24th -- on its proportional representation candidates list. The ranking made him unlikely to win a seat in the National Assembly.Joo was formerly chief of the PPP chapter in Gwangju, a stronghold of the main opposition Democratic Party.Source: Yonhap News Agency
