Yunlin elementary schools, libraries receive board games as Christmas gifts

A German businessman on Wednesday donated NT$2 million (US$64,700) worth of board games to elementary schools and libraries in central Taiwan’s Yunlin County as Christmas gifts.

Johannes Goeth, owner of Swan Panasia, a board game company in Taipei, said he made the donation because he was impressed with the friendliness of everyone he encountered in the county when attending Tuku International Life Fest there two months ago.

To increase Yunlin’s educational resources, Goeth said he donated more than 3,000 board games, one to each class in local elementary schools and 20 games to every county-run library.

In addition, each student at Tuku Elementary School received one board game.

Goeth said he grew up playing board games at his friends’ homes because he couldn’t afford one, and now as a seller of board games he hopes to contribute to local society and promote their benefits.
