17 Hospitalized Following Motorcycle Fire in Changhua


Changhua: A parked motorcycle in Changhua County burst into flames early Sunday morning, causing thick smoke that resulted in 17 nearby residents being taken to the hospital, according to the Changhua County Fire Bureau.



According to Focus Taiwan, the bureau reported receiving a call at 3:45 a.m. about a motorcycle fire under the sidewalk overhang of a five-story building. The fire prompted a significant emergency response, leading to the deployment of 15 firetrucks, 11 ambulances, and 52 firefighters to the scene. Residents in the vicinity were advised to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed.



The blaze was brought under control in about an hour, but not before 17 individuals suffered from smoke inhalation and required medical attention. Changhua City Mayor Lin Shih-hsien shared on Facebook that the affected individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The ages of the victims range from 73 years to just 11 months.



The fire bureau is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire and identify any responsible parties.
