Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) recorded a temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius in Sanxia District, New Taipei, Sunday afternoon, while continuing to release heat advisories for cities and counties across Taiwan.

According to Focus Taiwan, the high was recorded at 3:10 p.m., the highest in the day, followed by 38.1 degrees in Taipei's Neihu District, and 38 degrees in New Taipei's Wugu District. Several areas in Greater Taipei and Taoyuan also recorded temperatures of over 37 degrees, CWA figures indicated.

The agency forecast persistent hot weather across Taiwan on Monday and issued heat alerts for that day. Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan were placed under an orange alert, with a likelihood of extreme temperatures reaching 38°C. Taichung, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County also received orange alerts, with the possibility of consecutive highs of 36°C, warranting extra caution, the CWA stated.

Hsinchu County and Miaoli County received yellow alerts, signaling the daily maximum temperature could reach 36 degrees. The weather agency advised residents in heat-affected areas to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, strenuous labor and exercise, take precautions against sun exposure, stay well hydrated, and protect against heat-related illnesses.

The agency also recommended keeping indoor spaces ventilated and paying extra attention to seniors, children, people with chronic illnesses, those who are obese or on medication, vulnerable groups, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.
