Bangkok, The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI) announced that the Air Traffic Control System (ATM System) is a closed system with the highest level of security. The crowd strike will not affect air traffic services.Mr. Noppasit Chakpitak, President of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd., said that 'According to Mr. Surapong Piyachote, Deputy Minister of Transport, he has monitored, ordered, and inspected the operations of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, which is the agency responsible for overseeing the incident in which a large number of computers using Microsoft's Windows operating system experienced a 'Blue Screen of Death' (BSOD) on July 19, 2024, which affected the computer systems of banks, airlines, TV stations, shops, and all sectors worldwide. The cause was a system update called CrowdStirke. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand was not affected by the incident and can still provide air traffic services as usual because the air traffic control equipment (ATM System) is a closed system with the highest level of security. Other computers using the Windows operating system were not affected in any way.'Mr. Napasit added that 'The incident directly affected the reservation/seat confirmation system, which connects data to the passenger boarding system (Check-in System) of some airlines, which was unable to function. Each airline had to manually check passengers for boarding, resulting in delays of 20 flights at Don Mueang Airport, with each flight delayed by 1-2 hours. As for Suvarnabhumi Airport, 8 airlines were affected and 8 flights were delayed by 1-2 hours each. However, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has been working closely with airlines and airports to facilitate and ensure the utmost safety for passengers and aircraft, in accordance with the Ministry of Transport's policy.Source: Thai News Agency
