Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Thursday issued cold surge advisories for regions in northern Taiwan. These advisories are set to be in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning, warning of plummeting temperatures.According to Focus Taiwan, the advisories predict temperatures in low-lying areas such as Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Shimen District in New Taipei to drop below 10 degrees Celsius. Throughout Thursday, temperatures across Taiwan will decrease, with the north experiencing highs of 18-19 degrees and central and southern regions seeing 22-24 degrees, before dipping to 12-13 degrees in the north and 14-16 degrees in the south at night.In terms of precipitation, heavy rain is anticipated to impact Taiwan's northern coast, Yilan County, and the mountainous regions in the Greater Taipei Area on Thursday and Friday. Northern and eastern Taiwan, along with mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula, may encounter localized sp oradic showers. Kaohsiung and Pingtung County are also expected to experience sporadic showers on Thursday.The CWA forecasts a slight temperature rebound over the weekend, with northern Taiwan seeing highs of 20-23 degrees and southern parts reaching 25-26 degrees. Nighttime and early morning temperatures are expected to dip to 10-12 degrees in the north, 12-13 degrees in central Taiwan, and 15 degrees in the south.Meanwhile, sporadic showers are likely in eastern Taiwan, areas north of Taoyuan, the Hengchun Peninsula, and mountainous regions in central and southern Taiwan, whereas other parts of the island will enjoy cloudy to sunny skies.
