Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has announced plans to issue a sea warning for Typhoon Bavi by 2:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a land warning early Friday, contingent upon the storm maintaining its current trajectory and speed.According to Focus Taiwan, as of 8 a.m. Thursday, Typhoon Bavi was positioned approximately 995 kilometers east-southeast of Taiwan, advancing northwest at a speed of 13 kph. The typhoon is exhibiting maximum sustained winds of 184 kph, with gusts reaching up to 227 kph. CWA forecaster Lin Po-dong indicated that if the storm continues on its projected course, it is expected to pass near the northern coast of Taiwan, with the most significant effects anticipated from Friday night through Saturday.Lin noted that by the time Bavi reaches Taiwan's northern coast, it may experience a slight weakening and reduction in size. The CWA's planned issuance of a sea warning on Thursday afternoon is based on the storm's current path, with a subsequent land warning expected early Friday morning. Coastal regions of Taiwan may experience sustained winds between 62-102 kilometers per hour on Friday as the typhoon approaches, escalating to 89-117 kph later in the day and into Saturday.Areas including Yilan County, regions north of Taoyuan, and the outlying islands of Matsu, Lanyu, and Ludao could face gusts up to 133 kph. Northern Taiwan is forecasted to encounter heavy to torrential rain on Friday, expanding to other parts of the country by Saturday. Extremely torrential rain is possible in northern and mountainous areas of central and eastern Taiwan. The rain is expected to subside by Saturday evening, with winds likely to diminish by Saturday night.High seas are anticipated along the eastern and northern coasts of Taiwan, with wave heights reaching 6 meters, while other coastal areas might see waves of 2-4 meters on Saturday. On Thursday, waves up to 5.5 meters were already impacting the east coast in Taitung County.
