Yilan:Four members of a family lost their lives in a fire that broke out at a building materials store in Yilan County late on Saturday, as reported by local authorities on Sunday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the victims included the wife and two children of the property owner, a man identified by the surname Yu, along with his father. The Yilan County Fire Bureau confirmed these individuals were found inside the building and subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital despite emergency efforts.
The fire was first reported to the bureau at 10:36 p.m. on Saturday. It occurred at a three-story building located on Wenquan Road in Yuanshan Township, directly across from Yuan Shan Junior High School. The firefighters noted heavy smoke emanating from the building and received reports of people trapped inside. Upon arrival, they encountered flames on the second floor and heard explosions.
Yu managed to escape without assistance, and his mother was rescued by firefighters. She was conscious and taken to the hospital for examination. The fire was controlled by 1:12 a.m. on Sunday and fully extinguished by 3:14 a.m., as stated by the fire bureau.
Firefighters discovered the bodies of Yu's wife, identified by the surname Shih, their two children, and Yu's father during their search of the premises. The fire bureau stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
