Tamsui:A light rail train was involved in a collision with a passenger car in Tamsui District, New Taipei, on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred after the car's driver allegedly made an illegal left turn.

According to Focus Taiwan, the accident took place at approximately 1 p.m. near the intersection of Binhai Road, Section 1, Lane 306. The driver, a woman identified by her surname Chu, was traveling along Binhai Road when she made a left turn, reportedly against the traffic signal, leading to the collision with the light rail train.

Police conducted a breath test on Chu, which indicated no alcohol consumption. Additionally, there were no signs of drugged driving. However, Chu was fined under Article 48 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. The specific amount of the fine was not disclosed, but it is suggested to be between NT$600 and NT$1,800 (US$19-US$57).

In response to the accident, New Taipei Metro Corp. temporarily operated trains on a single track in both directions. Normal service resumed at 1:23 p.m. after police completed their on-site investigation. The company reported no injuries and only minor damage to the train, with a comprehensive assessment pending upon the train's return to the depot for inspection.
