Shanghai:Taiwanese competitors demonstrated exceptional skill by securing a total of 13 medals at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition held in China last week.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taiwanese team, comprised of experts in various vocational fields, earned three gold, three silver, and seven bronze medals. Additionally, the team was recognized with 30 Medallions for Excellence, awarded to those achieving high scores without securing a medal. The Workforce Development Agency (WDA) reported that the gold medals were claimed by four professionals across two competitions.

In the Information and Communication Technology competition, Lu Zhi-kuan won gold in Software Applications Development, while Chiu Yu-hsiang and Yang Yong-xu took gold in Cyber Security. Yang Yu-chun secured the third gold in Floristry within the Creative Arts and Fashion competition.

Silver medals were awarded for Cabinetmaking in the Construction and Building Technology competition, Mechatronics in the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology segment, and Beauty Therapy in the Social and Personal Services contest. The WorldSkills website highlighted these achievements.

Among the seven bronze medals, three were in Social and Personal Services in Hairdressing, Bakery, and Stisserie and Confectionery categories. The winners were announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday in Shanghai, concluding a four-day event featuring 53 Taiwanese competitors across 47 professions.

The 48th WorldSkills Competition, a biennial event, saw participation from 1,400 contestants representing 68 countries and regions, competing in 64 categories from Wednesday to Saturday.
