New Taipei:A man has been detained incommunicado by the New Taipei District Court for allegedly violating a protection order after his daughter was seen in public with a vulgar sign hanging from her neck in Sanchong District.
According to Focus Taiwan, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office requested the man's detention on suspicion of assault, coercion, endangering a juvenile's development, and violating a protection order. Concerns were raised that he might commit similar offenses or collude with witnesses.
The incident gained attention when a member of the public posted on Threads about a girl wearing a paper sign with vulgar words, including "thief" and "bastard." The girl appeared dazed and had visible injuries on her face and arms. Two people, believed to be family members, were reportedly urging her toward crowded areas while recording the event.
Police discovered that the girl's father might have violated the protection order, leading to his arrest, as stated by Ministry of Health and Welfare official Huang Jui-wen. The girl has since been placed in protective care.
Director-General Kuo Tsai-jung of the MOHW's Department of Protective Services noted that the New Taipei City Social Welfare Department had opened a case concerning the girl and would take necessary measures in response to the situation. The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention Center had already applied for a protection order for the girl.
Kuo explained that protection orders can contain various provisions, which might have allowed the man and daughter to live together despite the order. She confirmed that violating a protection order is a criminal offense requiring police action and can result in a prison sentence of up to three years.
