Hualien: A mother and her son lost their lives in Hualien County following a tragic car crash when a truck crossed into their lane and collided with their vehicle. The truck driver sustained serious injuries.According to Focus Taiwan, the northbound truck unexpectedly swerved into the southbound lane near the 238.5-kilometer marker on Provincial Highway 9 in Guangfu Township. The collision occurred around 5 p.m., trapping the mother, identified by her surname Lin, and her son inside their heavily damaged car.Emergency responders utilized a hydraulic destructor set to extricate the victims from the wreck. Despite their efforts, both victims showed no signs of life and were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.The truck driver, a 37-year-old man with the surname Lo, suffered from a collapsed lung, cerebral hemorrhage, and rib fractures. He was hospitalized but tested negative for alcohol consumption.Authorities noted that Lin and her son were not local residents and have since informed their famil y of the incident. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
