New Taipei: The Sanying MRT Line, which will connect Tucheng with Yingge via Sanxia districts in New Taipei, northern Taiwan will be open to the public in March 2026, the city government announced on Wednesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the subway line is a 14.29-kilometer medium-capacity system with 12 stations that are designed to cut commute times and boost development in New Taipei's southwestern districts of Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge. The New Taipei City Government Rapid Transit Systems website shared insights on the line's expected impact.
The city's Department of Rapid Transit Systems stated that the new metro line will enhance integration across Taiwan's four northern municipalities: Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan. Lee Cheng-an, head of the department, indicated that the Sanying Line is undergoing a series of tests, including factory, installation, dynamic, and integration phases. Noise insulation and reduction measures are advancing, with substantial completion anticipated by December this year.
New Taipei City Transportation Department Director-General Chung Ming-shih noted that planning for connecting shuttle routes, improved pedestrian walkways, and traffic and parking logistics will commence in July. The New Taipei City Government emphasized the importance of shuttle connections and improved pedestrian pathways to facilitate easier navigation for riders.
In a report at a New Taipei City Government meeting, the department disclosed that bidding for the CQ880B contract on the Tucheng-Shulin Line had been reopened. The contract involves civil engineering and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work on the Tucheng elevated section. It was reissued after the previous round on February 27 received no bids, despite a budget exceeding NT$11.8 billion (US$401 million).
The New Taipei City Government assumed control of the project from the Taipei City Government in April and relaunched the tender after a review. The Sanying Line project received approval from Taiwan's Executive Yuan in 2015, with construction beginning in earnest in July 2016.
