New Taipei launched its annual Christmasland event in Banqiao District on Friday, while Kaohsiung announced the same day that the city’s second annual Christmas light show on the bank of Love River will begin Saturday.
The 2022 edition of “Christmasland in New Taipei City” opened at New Taipei City Plaza next to city hall with a laser projection mapping show at 6 p.m., featuring the northern lights for the first time in the event’s 12-year history, according to the organizers.
The Disney sponsored event will continue until Jan. 2, 2023 and feature characters from film franchises available on the Disney+ streaming service, including characters from Disney’s “Frozen” animated films, with snowmen from the films displayed around the main Christmas tree.
Christmasland has four exhibition areas, at New Taipei City Plaza, Banqiao Station Square, Wanping Metropolitan Park, and Fuzhong Shopping Area, according to the event’s website.
Visitors can see light installations of cartoon characters such as Mickey and Minnie mouse at New Taipei City Plaza, and figures from Marvel Studio movies as well as icebergs and polar bears in the National Geographic area at Fuzhong Shopping Area, the organizers said.
Multiple 3D laser projection mapping shows will be staged every 30 minutes from 5:30 p.m to 10 p.m. daily at New Taipei City Plaza during the event.
Meanwhile, Kaohsiung teased its Christmas event Friday by releasing photos taken during recent test runs.
The port city in southern Taiwan will hold its second annual Christmas Light Show at Kaohsiung Music Center next to Love River from Saturday to Jan. 2, the city government said.
The light show includes a projection in the shape of a Christmas tree near Kaohsiung Music Center, with “Kaohsiung” in Chinese characters projected onto a surface behind the tree, a video released on Friday by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) showed.
