S. Korea’s Jan.-Sept. auto exports log 84 pct growth from 2019: report

South Korean car exports during the first nine months of the year grew more than 80 percent compared with 2019, according to an industry report released Monday.

According to the report by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, the country’s car exports during the January-September period amounted to US$50.47 billion, up 84.2 percent from the same period in 2019.

The institute, however, pointed out that the country’s auto parts exports failed to record comparable gains.

According to the report, the country’s auto parts exports during the tracked period stood at $14.86 billion, up 4.6 percent from 2019. Shipments to the United States accounted for 35.7 percent of auto parts exports.

The report added electric vehicle battery exports during the January-September period grew 16.8 percent from 2019 to $2.13 billion. Of those, 64.7 percent were shipped to the U.S., the institute said.
