Taipei: Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines will adjust its excess baggage fees from September 1, with the highest fee set at US$280 per piece, the airline announced Monday. The adjustments will apply to passengers whose tickets are issued or reissued on or after September 1, with fees varying by destination.

According to Focus Taiwan, the destinations for the revised fees are divided into three regions. The first region includes Asia, excluding Southern Asia and Taiwan, as well as Guam. The second region consists of Canada, Southern Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and the western United States, including major cities like Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, Seattle, and Phoenix. The third region covers the rest of the United States, Europe, Africa, and Central and South America.

Starlux, recognized as Taiwan's newest international carrier, stated that the fee adjustment aligns with industry standards. This change comes as the airline's flight network expands and the number of transfer passengers increases. The airline offers a 20 percent discount for passengers who pay in advance for excess baggage online up to three hours before departure. However, those who do not pay in advance will incur charges for excess baggage, which include additional pieces, overweight baggage, and oversized baggage.

For tickets issued or reissued on or before August 31, passengers will continue to face the previous charges of US$150 per piece for short-haul flights and US$200 per piece for long-haul flights.
