Taipei’s Maokong Gondola to Close for Annual Maintenance June 16-30

Taipei: The Maokong Gondola, a popular aerial cable car in Taipei’s Wenshan District, will suspend operations from June 16 to June 30 for annual maintenance, with service set to resume on July 1, according to the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. on Wednesday. The company emphasized that the temporary closure is necessary to maintain safety, quality, and stability.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Maokong Gondola covers a 4-kilometer route across four passenger stations and has been in service for over 18 years. The gondola undergoes a full maintenance service each year to ensure its continued operation. This year’s maintenance work includes cable trimming, equipment overhauls, system testing, and improvement projects such as station repainting and restroom renovations.

During the closure, passengers heading to the hilltop Maokong area are advised to use alternative transportation options. These include the BR15 MRT Brown Line Shuttle Bus, the S10 Mountain Bus, or the Maokong Left (Zoo) Taipei Sightseeing Bus, ensuring that access to the area remains uninterrupted.
