Taiwan egg artist protests being labeled as Chinese

A Taiwanese egg artist recently responded angrily to being labeled as being from China in a Facebook display of easter eggs and had his nationality changed before having the work removed from the site.
Wang Yi-yi (王蟻益) posted pictures of decorated easter eggs on the Polska Pisanka — Easter Egg Poland Facebook page on Oct. 16 with explanations in Chinese.
Later on the 16th, the event’s Facebook administrator Mariusz Dubiel combined Wang’s design with pictures of three other designs.
In the accompanying list of artists and their countries, Wang’s name was kept in Chinese and his nationality was listed as “Chiny,” Polish for China.
Wang reacted angrily when he responded on the 22th.
“I’m not from China, I’m from a country, it’s Taiwan, a beautiful and kind country, please change it back, respect is an international etiquette,” Wang wrote.
Dubiel responded in Polish that the problem was the result of Wang not signing his works.
Wang then reposted his original message 12 times, before Dubiel replied that the mistake had been corrected, with his nationality as Taiwan, yet Wang continued to repeat his posts.
The administrator went on to say that anyone can make a mistake and that Wang should have identified himself on his photo.
Wang replied: “Just admit your mistake! It is my basic conscience to defend my country as a Taiwanese.” He then added, “You stole my work and I do not authorize it to you, I have sued you!”
After Dubiel reminded Wang to write his name and country of origin on the photo, Wang asked that his work be deleted “immediately!”
Wang’s picture in the four-picture combination was later replaced by an egg from a Ukrainian designer.

Wang told CNA on Sunday that he finally received a positive response to his request from renowned egg artist Justyna Goleń, who was also a member of the organizer.
“I sincerely apologize to you for the situation in our group Polska Pisanka – Easter eggs Poland,” Goleń replied to Wang. “The misunderstanding stems from our ignorance of Taiwan’s history and political situation. We’re really sorry.”
After receiving the response, Wang posted on his Facebook page: “You’ll get international support as long as you persist,” and he was applauded by Taiwan netizens for his efforts.
The Polska Pisanka is a Facebook group for egg shell crafts, and its participants get a ranking number in recognition of their aesthetic achievement.
Wang submitted three items to the event last year, the best of which obtained a ranking of 123rd.
