Taipei: Presidential Adviser Lin Hsin-i, Taiwan's envoy to the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, departed Tuesday morning to attend the two-day event which begins on Friday. Before boarding his flight at Taoyuan International Airport, Lin stated that Taiwan will emphasize its strengths in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), smart healthcare, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lin expressed hope that the meeting will attract more investment, strengthen international cooperation, and elevate Taiwan's profile within APEC. He noted that APEC serves as a platform for multilateral economic and trade dialogue, offering member economies the chance to engage on "equal footing." Lin described Taiwan's participation as a "valuable opportunity."

At a press conference on October 21, President Lai announced that he had instructed Lin to convey three key messages about Taiwan's commitments at the meeting. These commitments include boosting economic resilience, sharing industrial experience, and developing people-centered AI to support APEC's shared vision. Lai highlighted that South Korea, this year's APEC host, has emphasized AI and demographic change, which align with Taiwan's long-term policies.

The Presidential Office announced Lin's appointment as Taiwan's APEC envoy on October 8, highlighting his extensive experience with APEC operations and related policy discussions as making him the ideal candidate. Lin, who also chairs the government-backed venture capital firm Taiwania Capital, previously represented Taiwan at APEC meetings in 2005 and 2024.
