Taiwan Lottery to Boost Dragon Boat Festival Jackpots by NT$400 Million

Taipei: To celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival and stimulate interest, Taiwan Lottery announced Tuesday that it will increase the jackpots in several of its lotteries by a total of NT$400 million (US$13.16 million). Speaking with reporters, Taiwan Lottery President Hsieh Chih-hong revealed that the popular Lotto 6/49 will be among the lotteries to see a higher jackpot.

According to Focus Taiwan, starting from May 20, Lotto 6/49 will have a total of 100 special draws in addition to its regular draws. These special draws will follow the same rules as the regular ones, where participants must select six winning numbers to claim a cash prize. Winners of the special draws will receive NT$1 million or share the prize money with others holding the winning numbers. If no winners emerge, the special draws will continue until all 100 NT$1 million prizes are distributed or until July 4.

Hsieh also stated that the Taiwan Lottery plans to add prize money for its BINGO BINGO game, which allows players to bet on big or small numbers, or odd or even numbers, every five minutes. From May 26 for 14 days, BINGO BINGO will increase the prize payout to seven times the bet, compared to the regular sixfold. Additionally, winners of its "super numbers" will receive NT$1,500 per bet, up from the usual NT$1,200.

Hsieh noted that the increased jackpots are expected to boost Taiwan Lottery's revenue by NT$1.6 billion during the Dragon Boat Festival period.
