Taiwan Promotes Partnership with Europe at Warsaw Forum

Warsaw:Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung advocated for the "Taiwan Model" as a framework for strengthening ties between Taiwan and Europe during his keynote address at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland. He emphasized Taiwan's role as a high-tech leader and a reliable partner in European reindustrialization efforts.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lin highlighted the mutual goals of reindustrialization and rearmament for Taiwan and Europe in the face of increasing threats from authoritarian regimes in Russia and China. He pointed out that Russia's war in Ukraine has underscored the risks of Europe's reliance on energy supplies from authoritarian sources.

Lin remarked that the situation in Ukraine is influencing the security landscape not only in European cities like Warsaw, Berlin, and Paris but also in Taipei. He stressed the interconnectedness of global security, noting that the challenges posed by the rise of artificial intelligence signify a rapid technological shift that no region can tackle alone, presenting an opportunity for Taiwan to contribute significantly.

He further outlined Taiwan's position at the heart of advanced global supply chains, particularly in semiconductors and electronics. Lin proposed that Taiwan's technological capabilities complement Europe's strengths in industrial machinery, automotive engineering, and chemicals, thereby facilitating the production of competitive, finished products.

Beyond technology, Lin assured that Taiwan represents a trustworthy partner for Europe. In contrast, he critiqued the "China Model" for employing state subsidies and unfair practices that aim to dominate and create dependency in European markets.

This marks Lin's second consecutive year attending the annual forum, which focuses on trans-Atlantic cooperation and security in Central and Eastern Europe. During his visit to Poland, Lin also toured the site of the future Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) Technology Park, which aims to bolster supply chain resilience and support Europe's reindustrialization once completed.
