Taipei:Wei Chuan Dragons outfielder Zeng Sheng-an hit a crucial three-run homer, securing a 3-1 victory over the CTBC Brothers at Taipei Dome. This win gives the Dragons a 2-0 advantage in the Chinese Professional Baseball League's Taiwan Series.
According to Focus Taiwan, Zeng's home run came in the bottom of the fifth inning, turning the game around after the Dragons trailed 1-0. The 20-year-old, who was playing in his first Taiwan Series, launched a fastball from Brothers starter Félix Peña over the right-field wall, becoming the second-youngest player in CPBL history to achieve such a feat in the championship series.
Earlier in the inning, Zeng had made a fielding error that allowed the Brothers to take the lead. However, he credited his coaches and veteran teammates for encouraging him to focus on his next play, which led to his pivotal home run.
Peña was removed from the game after being struck by a batted ball later in the inning. He had allowed four hits, three walks, and struck out three batters over 4.2 innings. Meanwhile, Dragons starter Cristopher Mercedes delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings and yielding only one run on five hits while striking out three.
The Dragons' consecutive wins place them in a favorable position to claim their sixth CPBL championship. Historically, teams with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series have gone on to win the title 89.5% of the time. The series will continue with Game 3 at Taipei Dome after a rest day.
