2025 Taipei Art Awards Exhibition to Open Saturday

Taipei: The Taipei Fine Arts Museum will open its 2025 Taipei Art Awards exhibition on Saturday, showcasing works by 10 artists, including Grand Prize winner Hsieh Jung-wei, through April 26. The exhibition will feature an array of innovative art pieces that highlight the dynamic landscape of contemporary art in Taiwan.

According to Focus Taiwan, the finalists, comprising five Honorable Mentions, four Selected Award recipients, and Grand Prize winner Hsieh, were chosen from 308 entries. Hsieh's installation piece, "Orbit," which won the Grand Prize, draws inspiration from Sir Arthur Eddington's observation of the bending of starlight-a key experiment that supported Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Accepting his award on Friday, Hsieh shared that his journey of creation, though solitary, led him to realize the collective brilliance of individuals, likening each person to an independent star forming a starry sky. He expressed gratitude for the recognition of his work, "Orbit," which explores observation, alignment, and perception, inviting viewers to perceive shifting light as a means of understanding their place in the universe's vastness.

The exhibition will also include works by other talented artists, such as Shiu Jui-Tsz's "Territory of Self," Chen Yen-Chi's "There Is No Fairy Godmother Here," and Chen Kuang-Jui's "Divide the Mountain Mass: Sulfide, Springs, and What Lies Between." Additional pieces include Wang Guan-Jhen's "Before Paint," Ku Kuang-Yi's "Atlas of Queer Anatomy," Co-coism's "Through the Mother's Eyes," Su Jui-Hao's "Twilight Ecosphere," Hsieh Chi-Hsun's "On My Way," and Sun Pei-Mao's "All in a Thought."

Founded in 1983, the annual Taipei Art Awards are recognized as one of Taiwan's major platforms for contemporary art, serving as a barometer for emerging trends in the art world. The awards continue to promote new and innovative artistic expressions, contributing significantly to the cultural landscape.
