Taipei: A version of a well-loved Taiwanese pudding with reversed proportions of its classic ingredients is set to hit the shelves for a limited period, turning an April Fool's Day jest into reality.
According to Focus Taiwan, the product, originally an online prank, will be available from October 13 to November 2 at 7-Eleven stores, as confirmed by local news outlets through employee interviews.
This unique take on Uni-President Enterprises Corp.'s caramel egg pudding, fondly known as "Tong Yi Pudding," has created a buzz on social media, where initial whispers about the reverse version surfaced. The special edition pudding features a striking switch, with 87 percent caramel topping, compared to the traditional balance.
The rollout will see 520,000 cups of this novel pudding made available throughout the promotion. Customers can purchase them in three-cup packs for NT$54 (approximately US$1.77) or mixed six-packs containing both the original and reversed puddings for NT$75.
The concept took off when Uni-President humorously announced in a 2024 social media post that the pudding would be available with mostly caramel topping for just one day. This led to disappointment among some consumers who eagerly sought out the product at their local 7-Eleven, only to find it was merely a joke at the time. Now, the company seeks to fulfill that desire with this limited edition offering.
