Taipei: Taiwan's armed forces were monitoring a satellite launched by China on Sunday afternoon, which posed no threat, although it passed through the southwestern section of Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), the Ministry of National Defense said.

According to Focus Taiwan, China sent the new satellite into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province, and it traveled over Taiwan's ADIZ and the Western Pacific, the defense ministry said in a statement.

The launch at 4:55 p.m. was monitored by Taiwan's armed forces, via a joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system, and they found that it posed no threat to Taiwan, the ministry said.
