Taipei:Prosecutors have indicted a Taipei City elementary school teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting 38 students. The prosecutors are seeking a 30-year prison sentence for the accused.
According to Focus Taiwan, the indictment was issued by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office against a male teacher, surnamed Chou, who was employed at a Taipei elementary school from 2010 until earlier this year. Chou allegedly used his roles as a homeroom teacher, subject teacher, and after-school club instructor to exploit and molest male students.
Prosecutors stated that Chou enticed students with various inducements, including Lego sets, toys, snacks, and online game credits, to ensure their compliance. He reportedly lured students to multiple locations, including a classroom, a swimming pool, and hotels, to commit the alleged assaults. Chou also made video recordings of the victims, which were saved on his computer.
The investigations revealed that many victims came forward only after realizing they had been abused. Police conducted searches at Chou's residence and workplace, resulting in his detention. He has been charged with multiple violations under the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act and Criminal Code.
In response to the allegations, the Taipei City Department of Education suspended Chou from his duties and conducted an administrative investigation, which led to his dismissal, a lifetime teaching ban, and a fine of NT$13.5 million.
