Taipei Mayoral Candidates to Hold Televised Debate on October 31

Taipei:Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an of the Kuomintang (KMT) and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker Puma Shen have agreed to participate in their first televised debate on October 31. The debate will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the TVBS studio.

According to Focus Taiwan, TVBS and SET News, who are co-hosting the event, released a joint statement confirming the arrangements after a meeting with representatives from both campaigns. The debate will feature opening statements, cross-examination, questions from the media, and closing statements.

Wu Szu-yao, a DPP lawmaker and campaign manager for Shen, mentioned that while there were differing opinions on the date and time, Shen's campaign remains flexible. She also suggested holding more debates, but noted a lack of favorable response from Chiang's campaign.

KMT Legislator Lo Chih-chiang, representing Chiang, stated that his campaign is open to more debates and has accepted invitations from other media outlets. The debate coincides with the Taipei Pride march, which begins at 205 p.m. at Taipei City Hall Square. Both Shen and Chiang plan to participate in the march, as they have in previous years.
