Taipei: An abnormal train condition on the Taipei Metro's Wenhu Line on Tuesday morning affected about 8,400 people, according to the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. (TRTC). Passengers who left the train before their stop or entered the station but did not board a train due to the disruption can apply for a refund or correct the information on their electronic tickets at Taipei metro stations, the metro company said in a news statement.

According to Focus Taiwan, the company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers. The incident occurred at 8:03 a.m. when a train departing Dazhi station for Taipei Zoo signaled an abnormality. This triggered the train's automatic safety system, resulting in a halt. The 198 passengers on the affected train were guided along the maintenance walkway to another train dispatched by the metro company's control center.

Trains operated in both directions on a single track until 9:22 a.m., when full service on the line resumed. An initial assessment pointed to a component malfunction as the cause of the line fault. A detailed inspection will be conducted at the train depot, with results guiding a broader examination project on the trains.

The TRTC emphasized that trains on the Wenhu Line run on automated systems with stringent safety requirements, which automatically stop a car when an abnormal signal is detected to ensure passenger safety. The company also noted that train delays have decreased over the past three years, with 21 in 2023, 10 in 2024, and six in 2025 as of Tuesday.
