Taiwanese Driver and Filipino Passenger Killed in Chiayi Freeway Crash

Chiayi: A Taiwanese driver and his Filipino passenger were tragically killed on Friday on National Freeway 3 in Chiayi County. The accident occurred after their light truck collided with the rear of another vehicle that was stuck in traffic.

According to Focus Taiwan, the National Highway Police Bureau's Eighth Police Brigade is still investigating the cause of the accident, which took place at around 10:20 a.m. near Zhuqi Township. The driver of the light truck, a 31-year-old man surnamed Lu, and his passenger, a 38-year-old identified only as Alexander, were extracted from their severely damaged vehicle by firefighters. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital.

The driver of the heavy truck that was rear-ended, a 40-year-old identified only by his surname, sustained only minor injuries in the incident. The police brigade is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
