Team Taiwan to Play Exhibition Matches Against Lotte Giants Ahead of WBC Qualifiers

TAIPEI: Team Taiwan will host two games against the Lotte Giants from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) in mid-February as part of the team's preparation for the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers. The games are scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 at Taipei Dome, with a promotional press conference set for February 4.

According to Focus Taiwan, tickets for the series will be available for purchase starting the day after the press conference, with prices ranging from NT$480 (US$14.65) to NT$880. The Lotte Giants, a team with a 40-year history, have previously won the KBO championship in 1984 and 1992. However, the team has faced challenges in recent years, ranking between seventh and last in the 10-team KBO over the past seven seasons, after a third-place finish in the 2017 season.

Following the exhibition series, Team Taiwan will continue their preparations at Tianmu Baseball Stadium until February 18. The full roster of 35 players is set to be announced when the team begins training on February 3, as stated by CPBL President Tsai Chi-chang. Team manager Tseng Hao-jiu has indicated that the roster will differ from the Premier12 tournament roster, with "Captain Taiwan" Chen Chieh-hsien and catcher Lin Chia-cheng being the only players confirmed to participate in both tournaments.

Lin Chia-cheng's participation is subject to his fitness, as he sustained an injury during the Premier12 Final against Japan. The team has been closely monitoring his recovery, which remains a factor in his inclusion for the qualifiers. Tseng Hao-jiu also disclosed that the roster will comprise 19 pitchers, with nine from the CPBL and 10 playing overseas, along with four catchers, seven infielders, and five outfielders.

Team Taiwan is preparing for its first qualifier game against Spain at Taipei Dome on February 21, followed by matches against South Africa and Nicaragua in the subsequent days.
