Lampang, 8 Oct. - Acting Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police presided over the cremation ceremony of the Deputy Chief of the Crime Suppression Division of Lampang City Police Station who died while on duty when he was hit by a motorcycle that broke through a checkpoint.Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, acting national police chief, presided over the royal cremation ceremony of Pol. Lt. Col. Klahan Pakowong, deputy chief of the Muang Lampang police station, who died while on duty at Wat Rong Kok, Bo Haeo sub-district, Muang district, Lampang province. Pol. Lt. Gen. Korchai Klaiklueng, assistant national police chief, Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakhon, commander of Provincial Police Region 5, and many police officers attended the ceremony.On September 29, 2024, Pol. Lt. Col. Klahan and his group set up a checkpoint to measure alcohol levels on Rob Wiang Road, Mueang District, Lampang Province. The suspect rode a motorcycle through the checkpoint and hit Pol. Lt. Col. Klahan, who was injured and died while being treated at Lampang Hospital on October 2, 2024.The acting national police chief said he would like to express his condolences to Pol. Lt. Col. Klahan and has instructed his superiors to take full care of his benefits to the fullest extent possible to encourage and support Pol. Lt. Col. Klahan. Initially, the Royal Thai Police provided 2,383,700 baht in financial assistance according to his benefits, along with a salary increase and a rank increase of 5 levels and 4 ranks to 'Pol. Maj.
