Taipei: Four people were injured Sunday after a city bus crashed into a bus stop in Taichung following a collision with a car that had already been involved in another vehicular accident.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taichung City Fire Bureau reported receiving a call at 3:08 p.m. about the incident at the National Museum of Natural Science bus stop. The crash took place in the dedicated bus lane on Section 2 of Taiwan Boulevard, located in the city's West District.

Police investigations revealed that the collision was initiated by a 59-year-old man, identified by the surname Chung, who was driving in the bus lane. Chung attempted to switch into a regular traffic lane, colliding with a vehicle driven by a 50-year-old woman, surnamed Tsai. This series of events led both cars to veer into the path of a city bus traveling in the bus lane, causing the bus to lose control and crash into the bus stop.

Authorities stated that Chung might face a fine ranging from NT$600 to NT$1,800 (approximately US$20 to US$61) due to his illegal presence in the bus lane. It was confirmed that neither of the drivers involved tested positive for alcohol or drugs. However, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

According to firefighters, the crash resulted in injuries to four individuals: one bus passenger, one individual waiting at the bus stop, and two passengers in Tsai's car. Fortunately, all sustained only minor injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full details surrounding the cause of the accident.
