Chiayi: Doctors pronounced dead late Monday a woman and her baby daughter rushed to hospital earlier in the day after their scooter collided with a truck in Chiayi County, Minsyong Police Precinct said Tuesday.

According to Focus Taiwan, the scooter driven by a 36-year-old woman surnamed Hsiao collided head-on with a truck while turning left at an intersection on Zhongxing Road in Dalin Township Monday evening. Hsiao and her two-month-old daughter, whom she was carrying in a baby sling, were thrown from the scooter as a result of the crash.

The two showed signs of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at the crash site and were both pronounced dead within 20 minutes of arriving at a local hospital. A breath alcohol test performed on the truck driver surnamed Wu showed zero alcohol in his blood, police said, adding that they are looking into the cause of the fatal accident.
