Taipei: Over 15 centimeters of snow has accumulated on Xueshan (Snow Mountain) and other mountain peaks in central Taiwan's Shei-Pa National Park in recent days, the park's management office said Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, photos and videos sent back by hikers reveal a "significant" amount of snow currently blanketing the ground across the park's Shengling Hsien, or "Holy Ridgeline." Additionally, many trails in the park have frozen over, as indicated by the park office's statement.
The main peak of Xueshan, along with Cuichi, Xueshan Cirque No. 1, and the Wuling Quadruple Mountains, have each seen over 15 cm of snow accumulation. The park office has issued a reminder for visitors planning to see the snow to closely monitor local weather conditions, ensure they are appropriately dressed and equipped, and hike in groups with a professional guide.
According to the Central Weather Administration, temperatures on the 3,886-meter Xueshan were forecasted to drop to minus 5 degrees Celsius overnight Monday, with a daytime high of only 6 degrees expected on Tuesday.
